Jouhikko Bowed Lyre - a Scandinavian 3-string bowed musical instrument (15th-16th century), in the form of a trough, carved from a single piece of wood. The body is closed on the front side with a spruce or pine deck with resonant holes, the head is slightly tapered, equipped with three wooden pegs, and has a through longitudinal slot. The strings are gut, tuned in quarters. The bow is short and moon-shaped.
During performance, the instrument is held vertically, resting the bottom of its body on the knee. The left hand's fist is inserted into the head's slot, the fingers of the back of the hand are brought under the string and, touching it, playing the melody, the other strings sound like a bourdon.
By taking Jouhikko in your hands, you will feel that you are touching the roots. It becomes clear how the souvenir differs from a real musical instrument.
