The Handpan C# Aeolian is a melodic percussion instrument crafted from two interconnected steel hemispheres: the DING (top side) and the GU (bottom side). The DING side features nine carefully tuned tonal fields arranged in a circular layout around the central dome, creating an intuitive melodic flow similar to a gong’s harmonic structure.
The GU resonator includes a 10 cm sound hole that can be played like an udu or used to modulate the resonance of the DING, allowing expressive bass pulses, breath-like textures, and dynamic rhythmic effects. Sound can be produced using fingertips, thumbs, or the base of the palm, giving the player a wide palette of articulation and dynamics.
Tuned in the C# Aeolian scale, this handpan delivers a deeply emotional, cinematic, and introspective character. The scale naturally supports melodic storytelling, ambient textures, meditative exploration, and expressive solo performance. Thanks to its intuitive tuning, any playing pattern sounds harmonious — making it accessible even for absolute beginners.
